The paint smell should definetely have been gone by now, and it could be up in the air ducts to. Turn on the a/c and spray some lysol up into the duct work. Tell your landlord the problem that you are having, and that it is making the apartment unlivable. Maybe he could have a professional come in there and treat the area with a commercial strength odor remover, and treat the carpets as well, since they hold odors.
Good luck

The people, who own the apartment, probably used oil based paint as it is more durable. Oil based paints retain their smell longer because it takes longer for the oil to cure than it does for water based paints to dry out and cure. You just need to be patient, keep the windows open, use air fresheners. Do not use candles as they are oil based. You might want to try setting some open boxes of baking soda around the room. Baking soda is excellent at absorbing odors.

Try boiling water and vanilla then simmer. Or I heard but haven't tried yet cut an onion and score both ways top and bottom and place in a bowl with 1/8 cup water. Onion is supposed to absorb smell.
