My youngest are both 2 1/2. They were preemie and when we were sent home one of the many things they told us is to use liquid fabric softener. The sheets put a very fine lint on the clothes and the liquid does not (plus the liquid smells so much better)! Good luck. PS I used All Baby Laundry soap and had good luck with it.

dont waste your money on special detergent unless your family has a history of allergies. Its a total waste. My family (for generations) has never used special detergent and has never had a problem. Dont switch a lot though either as that could cause irritation to baby skin. Fabric softner is ok as long as its in moderation. Dont over do it with baby clothes especialy until you know baby doesnt have any irritants.

You dont necessarily have to use a special detergent. Just make sure the clothes get rinsed really well to avoid any rash or allergic reactions. Fabric softener is fine.

With my first daughter I used Dreft. It is really expensive. I used regular detergent when I had my second child. I always use fabric softener on all the clothes I wash all the time.

A lot of baby's pajamas is treated with flame retardant chemicals that break down when one uses fabric softener. Personally, I think those chemicals are dangerous and buy clothes without them. I do use dryer sheets with no fragrance. I also use Baby All. It is the same price as regular detergent (like Tide) but very gentle. I use it on all our clothes so I don't have to buy multiple bottles or do special loads. If your kids don't react to fabric softener, use it if you prefer it. But don't waste your money on Dreft.

I used perfume, dye free "Extra" detergent, one of the cheapest and it was fine. Unless you baby has a specific reaction you really do not need special detergent. Now we have an High Efficiency washer, and we use Purex, because it is the cheapest and does a good job. I use Shout Gell for stains, the bleach pen or soak clothes overnight in the Oxi stuff. If stains are treated right away, you do not need to use the most expensive detergent.

I never used any special detergent on my daughter's clothing, and we never had a problem with it. If you think about it, baby will be exposed to fabric softener on your clothes too unless you use the same special detergent on your clothes as well.

Most newborns skin is very sensitive. The fabric softeners that you may use could cause the babys skins to bresk out. the best thing to use would be fabric softeren made speacially for babys. you can fing this a wal-mart in the fabric softener section.

You dont need to use a special detergent really. I used to wash the whole family's clothes in detergent free of perfune and dyes like ALL brand.

Generally no. Babies skin is very sensitive, that's why they say to use special detergent for baby clothes. I wouldn't use the softner.
