Ignore the people saying he was ashamed. He's most likely worried people (including his wife) will think he's cheating, and because he isn't, he avoids that massive problem with a little lie. Its not meant to insult you. It's actually a very reasonable way of avoiding having a dozen guys laughing about how he's sleeping with some girl from high school so loudly his wife hears.

hi michelle,
this one is so easy. I will tell you exactly why. You said that he is married right? Bam there is your answer. his friends know that he is married. If he tells them that you are friend from highschool, his friends start assuming that there could be something more then just friendship there. not his fault, just the way it is. He knows what will be going through their heads. Also, I dont know that whole situation, but there is a chance that his wife doesnt know about it, or even the chance that he still likes you. When you "renewed your friendship" was he married already? If he was then he really didnt have a choice buf friendship, but if not then any guy would agree to just friends, but then hope sometime down the road their could be something more. good luck

His friends may be the kind that take everything and blow it up and he didnt want to get greef about that maybe in a different environment where his wife may be around. Maybe he does want something more intimate with you and feels guilty around his friends because they know his wife. Maybe he wants to cheat on his wife with you and doesnt want to make it obvious to his friends. Why are you out alone with a married man to begin with?

WOW that is rude. Being friends he shouldnt have to lie about it. To me it seems as thou he is embarrased to be seen with you. Its possible one of his buddies knows his girlfriend and is worried of having to explain himself. Even then hidding it from her is foolish too.
Guys are funny on stuff like this, could be he doesnt want his buddies to know you too are on friendly terms and be teased cause your not .. how do I say this with out being rude..... a perfect 9.... He might usualy go for a certain type of girl or the guys think she should be a "certain type". Who knows hard to get the truth on things like that. Still not the dam point.. That is down right rude. It would bother me too.
Have you asked him WHY on earth he would say such a thing?

Are you an idiot?? If he told his friends that you are an old firend by the time the game was over his wife would have heard a different story. If he was trying to bang you he would not take you in public. he doesn't want to hear any sh-t from his wife.

he just wanted to avoid the questions and copious amount of stuff his friends will dish out, if they knew the truth.
He's married and he's with a woman other than his wife, and it turns out you guys dated in high school. Theres gonna be alot of questions. In your mind it maybe ok but in his its not.

Maybe he felt like they would think he was cheating on his wife and didn't want want to be harrassed by them about it. I'd confront him though to make sure because his and your strictly friends is still just that and he isn't thinking something else.

Did his wife know that u guys were out together? If, not than I would say he felt guilty. Even though, you are just friends, if his wife didn't know about this than both of u are in the wrong. Put yourself in her shoes.

I think he lied because his wife would NOT like it for him to go somewhere with another woman. He lied to protect himself from his wife. Obviously, she wouldn't like it, and truthfully, I wouldn't blame her. Being that he is married, he has NO BUSINESS going anywhere with another woman. Maybe he is embarrassed or ashamed of you for some reason. Whatever his excuse, it simply is NOT good enough. I would let this so-called friend, GO! He isn't grown up enough to be your friend. He isn't grown up enough to be married. If my husband did that to me, with a so-called "friend" of the opposite sex, then, I would NOT like it one bit! These are the kinds of things that leads to affairs. YOU may say not, but obviously, it is on his mind, or he wouldn't have lied about who you were. He is trying to cover his adulterous thoughts, and save his marriage (he WANTS his wife, but wants to cheat with you). You need to wake up.

In this case, he was probably afraid his friends would think he was cheating on his wife; she wasn't at the game with him, and that does look suspicious.
