The fact that you are trying means you are alive. If you make it your choice to only compete against yourself and not others then just the fact that you are out there should be enough. Continuously try to improve yourself and compete against your own scores. There is a poem about a plant who was trying to figure out which kind of flower she wanted to be. She criticized every flower as either being too proud or too cold and when she woke up in the morning she found herself to be a weed. There is another story about a little box that spent so much time looking at the wrappings on the other boxes that he never got his own box decorated. You are fearfully and wonderfully made and the very hairs of your head are numbered and you were given at least one talent so develop your own gifts and give thanks for what you have. Mmm

You are 'right' about 'hating yourself' for wanting to 'join a competition' and wanting 'to win it so much' ... that is your 'conscience' telling you that it's 'wrong' in some way for you to want to do this. You need to 'sit down and think' about it ... what kind of competition it is ... why you want to win it so badly ... and you need to ask one more BIG question: If I do win this competition, how will it affect my life in ten years? Will your entering this competition, and whether you win or not have an effect on your 'earning power' in the future?
If the 'competition' has passed, and you entered but lost, or you didn't enter at all then you need to ask more questions, with the big one being WHY didn't I win? Was it because you weren't 'fast enough' or because something inside you really 'didn't want to win' because you have a 'low self image' that would have been damaged if you had won?
Especially in the U.S., 'competition' is supposed to be 'always good' for 'everyone involved' even when there is only one 'winner' ... and that is just 'totally wrong' ... sometimes just 'being in the competition' is a 'good thing' but you should also know that just because people are 'competing' doesn't mean that the 'winner' is the 'best person in the world' ...
I don't and never have entered any 'competition' for any kind of honor ... because I 'know' that 'I am the best that I can be' and don't need to have 'other people' tell me that. I won't even play games with 'super-competitors' because it's just 'no fun' when I play with them, and 'play' is supposed to be 'fun' first ...
I think that if you are 'happy with who you are and where you are going with your life' then you are 'fine' and you shouldn't let any 'competition' or 'winning' or 'losing' tell you that you aren't fine ... so maybe when the 'next competition' comes around, you'll have the 'good sense' to make your 'decision' on whether to enter because you want to 'have fun' or because you want to 'become the best' at that thing ... but please remember, that even if you 'win' this one, there will always be 'another' and some day you'll be 'too old to compete' ... and 'someone else will win.' It's far better to simply 'have as HAPPY a life as possible and be as 'healthy as possible' and let other people 'win the competition' ... because in the end, that 'happy life' doing a job that you 'really like' will help you to 'live longer and better' than entering any 'competition.'

Don't feel bad. I think that deep down inside all of us there is a hunger for victory. Don't sweat it, I've had plenty of times that I wanted to win and later felt ashamed for it. Think of it this way, everyone at some point does something we are not entirely proud of, the only perfect one is God. I hope this helps you

there's nothing wrong with wanting to win, it's a motivator, a reason to do something that you normally wouldn't do. its a cause that you work very hard for with conditioning or preparing yourself. just remember that weather you win or lose, you have gained knowledge and learned something about yourself. you konw that you don't like to lose. now, you have the opportunity to decide if you want to try to change your opionon, and learn to be okay with losing, or to work harder next time and try to win again, or, decide that you won't ever try to win again, because you don't like yourself for wanting to win. lol either way, it's totally personal preference. it's okay to want to win. just remember that there's only 1 winner, for every competition. tons of people that aren't the winner. none of them are bad people, but they are all in your boat too. they wanted to win, and didn't.

just be yourself. don't try to impress other people. don't be pressured. just go for it, and make your dreams come true. just remember, we really do learn from our misakes. prove your worth. and lastly, always expect for the worse. for if the worse didn't come, then you have something better at your hand. good luck!
