Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom comprising England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. A lot of Protestants (originally from England) live there. It answers to London and uses the pound, it hasn't a separate army.

Southern Ireland is a sovereign Catholic country, it has it's own army and answers to no one else. It uses the Euro. Both the UK and Ireland belong to the EU (although the UK has opted out of the Euro - for the time being)
