two reasons. The first is misues of commodity. The sperm should go into the woman (but this idea comes from a time when it wasx thought men had a finite amount of seed)
The second is a kind of self-lust for yourself.
Trying to get rid of masturbation takes a caliber of willpower that many do not possess, as the sex drive is very powerful.
You may cause more mental damage to yourself in trying to stop.

If sex is prohibited how can this religion survive (Shakers did the same thing and no longer exist). It appears that your spiritual leaders are telling you and everyone else that they know what is best. They are full of crap, and trying to control your thoughts... sex is the most purely natural behavior, well, maybe next to eating. Do not let these people control you. Also, find someone to enjoy a relationship with... it will work wonders.

Look, Dude, God gave you masturbation as a gift so you could relieve your manly urges. EVERY GUY MASTURBATES! Why feel bad about it; just keep it private. It's natural for men and women to do this and it's really a blessing. Celibacy is also a gift from God; but not everyone has it. So if you don't, use self-relief when you need to and know it's OK. first of all, religion is a choice. so you need to decide whether you follow those beliefs and if you do, dont have sex. but do masturbate, its natural. and its enjoyable!! there is absolutely nothing wrong with masturbation
