Serious answers only please. I have a PC about 25 metres from the transmitter. It is in an outside 'office' I can pick up the signal but it is fairly weak, and sometimes drops off. Any way to boost up would be appreciated. Thanks

The transmitter or 'wand' should point exactly up, (towards the sky.) eventhough most images of a router shows it pointing at an angle, do not point it towads your computer otherwise the signal will be really weak.

If you Have Linksys, buy A Range Expander; They were retailing for about 85 Dollars when I bought one from WALMART, and I had a problem similar to yours. The Range Expander does need to be configured, since it has WEP and other Capabilities( Configuring, as In what Channel, SSID, and WEP code, thats all), like the Router. However, it boosts signal strength by as much as 50% or more ( in cases of signals in the low 30% of full strength, or one bar out of 5). There are similar products to range expander on other Systems, but Linksys has the best capability

-On the xbox it could be your NAT type (security settings of your router). You can get a better connection by using a cable to connect it to the back or the router if havent already. Also on the xbox go under network setting and click test network connection (MIGHT help). You should have your NAT type on moderate or on Open for the best connection but getting it to open can be quite a problem. -You could buy a better router but this will cost quite abit of money. -If you wanted to improve your wireless you could even try putting some foil behind the router to improve the signal. Sounds funny but it might improve the wireless signal by quite abit. Hope this helps

Move the wireless router higher up and stay as close as possible to it without sitting on your neighbor's lap like that guy in the Campbell's Soup At Hand commercial.

Don't place it near any other electrical equipment.

Try moving the antennas around.

Also, try changing the channel it transmits at. 25m should be well within the range, so it might be being interefered with by another wireless network. If you go into the wireless settings, the channle si set by a number (usually 1-15 or so), try changing it to another number and see if that improves it.

I bought a Netgear Rangemax wireless router. It's supposed to work in big houses and houses with thick walls. It is brilliant. It has never dropped a connection since I switched it on - my old router was always dropping out.

What kind of wireless router do you have? Some linksys routers offer a signal booster adapter.

The Apple Airport with AirTunes will allow you to extend your wireless network.

Can be used for both Macs and PCs.

I've seen booster antenna's for some wireless routers. I think Linksys is one of them. Check this web site http://www.radiolabs.com/products/antennas/2.4gig/Wibberduck5.php

make yourself a waveguide for the wireless signal, people have been making them from pringles cans and things you just attach it to where your wireless aerial is connected at the moment point them directly at each other and hey presto http://cruftbox.com/cruft/docs/cantenna.html
