My son dosent want to eat sometimes and maybe eats like 4, 6oz bottles a day. We tried switching his formula. And I have talked to the doc. But he hasent helped. He was like 2 pounds under weight. Hes gaind that back. But hasent gained anymore. Hes only 4 months and I dont know what to do.

My husband is like 6ft 4in and weighs about 178 pounds. Hes verry skinny. Me I was 5ft 2in 114 pounds before I got pregnant. Could it just be genetic? Hes only like 12-13 pounds.

What can I do?

A 4-month-old 12lb boy in the US is at the 5th percentile for weight, and 13lb is at the 15th percentile. Let's just assume he's at the 10th percentile (an average of the two). This means that 90% of baby boys his age are larger than him and 9% are smaller than him. ALL ARE NORMAL!

There would be cause for concern if he has been at greater than the 10th percentile previously and he's now dropping off in weight gain. You said that he was 2 pounds underweight previously and has gained that back...that's a great accomplishment for such a little guy! Sounds like he's on the right track.

Don't push him to eat more than he wants, as long as he is continuing to grow and stay at the 10th percentile (your doctor can help you track this).

At 4 months old, formula is the best food for him and he doesn't need anything else. Complimentary foods such as baby cereals and baby fruits and veggies don't have as many calories or as complete nutrition as his formula, and they will fill him up more. If you start these right now he's likely to start growing more slowly since he will be taking in fewer calories daily. Wait until he's 6mos old to start these!

Children go through spurts. Sometimes they eat well and sometimes they don't. But, they will not starve. If they are hungry, they will let you know and they will eat. My daughter did the same thing. Don't worry too much. My daughter ate alot at first, then didn't want to eat hardly anything at all. It seems that she hasn't gained a pound in over a year, but she is getting taller. She's six now and I think that she's very healthy. It's been like this since she was a baby. I use to worry about it, but seeing how she turned out, makes me feel better. I would only worry if my child was vomitting or had fever with the loss of appetite. Always remember that a mother's intuition is best. If you think something is wrong and don't like the doctor's answer, go to a different doctor! Good luck.

Been there....done that....

Doctors told us that our child should be eating more but our baby just would not eat more than she wanted to eat.

Is your baby retaining his food? Regular wet diapers? Regular stools? How is his energy level? At 4 months your baby isnt doing much so they usually get some baby fat during that stage.

Your problem is the reason I don't like breast feeding directly from the breast. My wife thought that I was just being greedy...

but the truth is that the best thing for babies (in my opinion) is a bottle so you know exactly how much food they are getting.

I bring this up because I dont know if you recently changed to a bottle ... and you never realized that he wasn't getting the food quantity that you thought.

He purely drinks water??!! Is he starting to be? Does he drink formulation too? you additionally could make a infant consume, you be attentive to, you plug their nostril till ultimately they open their mouth. you place the nutrition in. in the event that they spit, you provide their nostril a great pinch to coach them to no longer try this. If theyrefuse to swallow, you're making them wash down the nutrition with a sip of formulation, water, or juice from a cup or bottle, despite the fact that works. quickly he gets the assumption and initiate ingesting willingly.

If he's eating and keeping it down...don't worry.

He may "up" his intake if you introduce the starter cereals.
