My area was 100% white 6 years ago and one minority family moved into our area. Next thing you know signs went up all over the place. Some here state this area will end up like Detroit. If someone can afford a 200,000 dollar home then what is the problem?

It's called the "White Flight". White flight is a term for the demographic trend where upper and middle class white Americans move away from non-white inner-city neighborhoods to predominantly white suburbs and exurbs. Major causes of white flight in United States cities include crime, racism, redlining, blockbusting, and restrictive covenants. These factors denied or increased the cost of services, such as banking and insurance, to residents in racially and economically determined inner-city neighborhoods while, at the same time, barring blacks from taking advantage of low mortgage rates and new housing in suburban developments.

If you're happy for the price of your property to plummet, then stay right where you are.
Black folk can be great neighbours like anyone else, but I'm afraid that whites still hold most of the cards when it comes to area selectivity.
It's the 'There Goes the Neighbourhood, Sheep Syndrome'
One moves, the rest follow suit, 'cos they're scared of losing money..
Save one of those empty houses for me. I'll be happy to neighbour with your new neighbours & yourself!.. :)

I live in St. Louis county, and there are many areas that were all white, and large groups of blacks moved into their neighborhood and the crime rate skyrocketed. It's not to say all blacks are criminals, but these homes are peoples investments, and they want to make sure they sell instead of taking a chance on their neighborhood going into the tank. It's all about property value.

The stereotype is that when minorities move in, so does crime and gang activity, and property values go down. I don't like that any more than anyone else, but that is the stereotype, so your neighbors were very likely simply reacting to those.

it has to do with values moral and others

If you work hard and put your money in a home you want to protect the value of that home if the moral fiber of your area starts to go down IE crime drugs prostitution ect.... this will affect your investment so you move to area that will increase in value

I don't believe it is a racial decision it's a financial one

I'm sad to say that I have relatives who have done that...moved out when a minority moved in. Their reason was "You get one, you get more just like roaches. I don't want to live in a ghetto." It is a sad, sick way to think, but some people still feel that way. It's just ignorance.

To get a true answer to that question - you would need to ask the people who moved out. You can't generalize that all white people move out when minorities move in, because it's not accurate.
