Baseball caps are sexy on men, no matter what their age is. But if you just dont like that style of cap, then maybe you buy him a new one that you like. And if its just the Hat thing that bothers you all together then tell him that he is so much sexier without the hat. But mention it casually and make sure that you make him believe that he is sexy without it. The main thing to keep in mind when telling men you dont like something about them, is to NOT tell them what you dont like, but what you DO like instead.

Some attire simply is not appropriate for certain venues, plain and simple (and yes this goes double for you in Austin, Texas).
Someone before me mentioned that it could be attributed to losing your hair (Ron Howard did it for years). Some people are embarrassed about that, even though male pattern baldness in one form or another happens to 65% of men in the US. I could say, "butch up and be a man, Sally" but I still have a full head of stylishly graying hair.
I rarely wear hats or caps. This is because my hair is very thick and I "suffer" from that fashion faux pas, HAT HAIR! In reality, I don't wear hats at all... I haven't owned a Stetson or other type of "cowboy hat" since the 80s, because my huge head looks wrong in them. I'll wear a baseball cap when playing golf or tennis to keep the sun out of my eyes, because sunglasses can fly off.
Unfortunately, society has decided that "dressing down" is cool, and dressing stylishly is passe'. Hell, people pay $200 for designer flipflops. My office had to institute a dress code because so many of the younger set would show up looking like they were either going shopping at Wal-Mart, shooting hoops with their buddies, or (ahem) charging for their services Still, I'm from a time when men took their hats off when they entered a building with the only possible exception being the Astrodome (because I went to see baseball games).
The baseball cap is fine for grocery shopping or a trip to the tennis courts, but you don't wear them out to dinner, to the symphony, or to church. Some people have no "couth" nor any shame.
I live in the US as well (Houston, Texas), and your request isn't being controlling. People seem to have forgotten what is and is not APPROPRIATE.

Well, I know this isn't the best way to deal with it, but it might be fun and get your point across, but you have to be willing to be light-hearted about it and not let it cause an argument -- ok, here's the answer: When he wants to go out with the hat on, pick something silly that you will wear out with him repeatedly (you have to be confident enough not to care that others will be staring at you - just remember - most of these people will never see you again) like big goofy glasses, a birthday party hat, fake bucked teeth, etc. Chances are he won't like being seen with YOU and if he doesn't care, you will both at least probably get a laugh out of it!

I would hope that if it bothers you that much just telling him should be sufficient. However, if he still insists on wearing it you have to weigh the good against the bad. Is he satisfactory in every other way and this is the only thing he does that bothers you? Or does everything he does bother you.
The best is to compromise. See if you can agree on certain circumstances where the hat is not appropriate. The rest of the time, accept it as you accept him.

Is he bald or balding... I know alot of guys who wear them because they feel embarrassed about their hairline. If thats the case, and he feels more comfortable when he wears them, go out and buy him some really nice ones. Good luck

I guess it depends on where you go. If you are going out to eat, to a movie or something, tell him you prefer him without a ball cap, but you don't care that her wears them any other time. It's a compromise, and just let him know you are NOT trying to control him, you just think he looks better without it.

Tell him:
Honey, I love you but you are not in high school anymore. You are not balding, so why covering your beautiful hair? Someone may think that you are bold, old men do that! You are young and atractive and I want everyone to see how sexy you are without the hat.
Good luck

My man doesn't wear hats but I can share with you the time (here in Chicago, cold as hell in the winter) we went shopping on the weekend and he put one of my sons (9 years old!) knit hat on and I didn't notice till we were at the mall and his BIG HEAD was in this little cap and he looked like he was retarded! I was SO Embarressed!
Men can do some stupid things sometimes, but i guess us women can too! : )

I understand...Even Jay-Z knows when it is time to "Change Clothes".
When I was trying to get my husband out of the baggy jeans, I would show him other (men) and just point out how clean, and nice they looked. In a "you would look so hot in that" way. And when I would see music video's with guys wearing baggy jeans, I would cringe, and comment that he looks like a hood. He doesn't look like anyone worth giving the time of day...That worked.
