usually bcuz they have to finfish devoloping the game and getting tv spots and stuff

There are a ton of reasons why, usually it has something to do with the time of year. For instance, releasing a brand new game right as soon as all the competitor's release their newest game can drive competition and cause people to have to choose. Hopefully in favor of them. :P Also, releasing a game in September or October is usually frowned upon because you could just delay it until after Thanksgiving/before Christmas when there will be a greater demand for it.
Alternatively, they may be dealing with legal or copyright matters regarding the game or it's technologies.They could also be having trouble deciding on an advertising strategy or having shipping issues.
Of course, the game might just not be finished yet. :P

sometimes they want to add last minute stuuf make it better but it is annoying to expect a game one day and have to wait another month for it to come out.
