I swell VERY badly from about 6 months on. It gets worse the further along I am. Right now I'm 37 1/2 weeks and I look like the Goodyear Blimp. My hands will swell so badly that I have trouble making a fist (and it hurts) and my feet will swell so badly that I feel like I'm walking around wearing big floppy clown feet and walking on a cushion. I find that wear shoes (the kind that tie) cuts down on the amount my feet swell (until I take them off anyway). This is all normal for me, this is my 4th pregnancy and its been the same for each. Swelling *can* indicate problems though, so you should mention it to your doctor and see what he says. If he's not worried then don't worry about it.

It is a common thing. I'd say you're lucky to only be swelling in your last few weeks...... I had swollen feet/ankles/hands from 6mos. on! And I never had toxemia. However; I saw my ob weekly from 6 1/2mos. on because he feared I might develope it. (because of the swelling, plus I had high blood pressure). So, always call or visit your ob if the swelling is severe. The hands and face are the target areas to watch for as far as swelling/redness associated with toxemia. Swelling legs and feet are pretty much a given when you add extra weight and heat!

The only pregnancy that I swelled enough to make it hurt like you are describing is when my blood pressure was extremely high. Some swelling is normal especially in late pregnancy but with that much swelling you definately need to at least call your doctor and see what they say.

You really need to contact your doctor. That kind of swelling is not normal. If your on your feet all day like I was when I was pregnant, your feet, ankles, and legs will swell some. Not to where it is painful.

call your local nurse to ask...where i live we have a 24 hour nursing program set up by the government...it's awesome...they ask personal questions to determine why YOU have what you do...because everyone's different.
