When getting over that special 'first love' in our lives, its my contention that it takes guys much longer to get over than it is for women...so lets hear how long it took everyone to get over that first love, i mean really get over...??

It took me another man and about a 1yr. lol!
The 2nd yr. there were occasional flashbacks, that might I say made me question his whereabouts---> These flashbacks usually happened when I would be alone and when I would start thinking about my past and just simply wondering what it would've been like if we were still together and blah, blah, blah!
3ed yr. completely out of my system no more flashbacks or desires of him---> I found a person I was really into still with this person after 4yrs.
My brother on the other hand went through some serious damage! His whole self esteem completely crushed and has never quite been the same. He didn't have that player in him or desire for anybody who didn't resemble her at all. I would honestly say he still thinks about her and has to this date compared every single girl he's been with to this one girl that got away and mind you this happened a good 7 yrs. ago

I think the opposite. I think it takes women longer. It took me a good 3 years. In reality it took me longer than that because my first love came into my life when I was 5 years old and the flame kept burning until I was at least 20. So really 15 years. No joke about the love at 5. I'm serious as a heart attack.

I am 38 yrs old, and my first love and I split up when I was 23. I can honestly say I won't love like that again. Thats not a bad thing. We were sick in love. Couldn't function with out each other ect. I was devestated when we split, and it took a good 8 months for me to start enjoying what the day had in store for me when I woke up in the morning. I think about her to this day. The memories I reflect on are more of a appreciation of how overwhelming a first love is. I don't miss her any more, but I do from time to time wonder how she's doing, and can still say there is a place in my heart that will always be hers.

Of course, I dated other guys through this time, but to reallly get over my first love took me 4 years. But, even when I saw him 8 years later, I still felt some sort of left over jolt, even though he turned into something that looked like the main character in the movie, "The Crow".

It took me a couple of years....it slowed down my ability to fall in love with my now wife, but it happened. No big deal.

She knew when I met her that I was in the "getting over" my first love stage and accepted it. She didn't always like it, but she accepted it. We have moved on and I am still friends with my first love, although I haven't seen her face to face in years. My wife and her husband know that it's long over.
