lets face it, today's society still treats people unfairly. sure most people in america have evolved past judging people based on race or background, but they still have a long way to go. a lot of people today feel that they only have to respect people who have some sort of talents or social status and that they can treat anybody else however they want. look at Donald Trumph. the guy is an arrogant jerk. if an average person were to act like him, the person wouold have no friends..same with athletes, singers, and actors. and look at American Idol. what exactly gives Simon the right to treat people like that? just because they weren't created with great voices, they deserve to be humiliated? appearently, a lot of people have no problem with that. and whenever somebody complains, people say this is how things are supposed to be. isn't survival of the fittest the way animals live? is that what we are? what ever happened to the golden rule?

simon may be honest, but he can do that without being a jerk. and he would, if society was harder on jerks. but society is accepting of jerks. most people would prefer a funny jerk over a boring nice guy. and actually, a funny jerk over a funny nice guy.

Because here in America where the green is worshipped more than any kind of love or family values, people can just simply make material gains their priority. Basically anybody who isn't the media's cookie cutter representation of "white-bread" married w/ two kids with an SUV middle or wealthy house is subject to being treated as second class citizens, that's just the way it is unfortunately. America allows people to be treated like crap, all for everyone else's entertainment. Let's face it, most people here in America are jerks.

Sorry, but Simon speaks the truth. These people, who aren't all that talented, go on a show that is a singing competition and can barely carry a tune. I have excellent pitch, practically perfect. I studied music composition, theory, history, etc etc etc. Simon isn't an arrogant jerk, he's honest. I would never get up and sing in front of him because I know that I would be ridiculed and I know I can sing (not as good as Melinda, but I still have better tone then most of the people on the show), yet these people are so delusional about their talent that they actually don't listen to his criticism, which if they did would help them in the long run.

This is how society has ALWAYS been though. Name me a time when looks, status and fiscal being hasn't had an impact on the way a person is looked at and treated.

You are being quite judgmental though yourself.

********************

So we're supposed to sugar coat everything? Why? So some people who aren't able to admit that they have no talent won't get upset? The reason why these people are delusional is that the people around them weren't honest with them and sugar coated the truth. Someone who can carry a tune isn't a proper candidate for the Next American Idol.

And, from what I remember in biology, we are ANIMALS! Mammals to be exact. So yes, survival of the fittest definitely applies.

At a deeper level, a major conflict arises from your question.
Should we simply label these people ignorant (those who "judge the book by its cover" so to speak) or simply leave them be.

Either way, the people who were raised to be say...superficial, judgemental, partial etc. wouldn't have any profound effect on them by us (a mere bypasser), but I do think when people(...anyone) feel a threat to what they value the most, yet the values are saved by those themselves who they see differently, thier is often a sudden...or a gradual change of heart...a change in thought, and that is when we can really make the change. Simply to label someone is being judgemental ourself offcourse.

To be precise on what I'm trying to say, is not what others often excalim as u mentioned "people say this is how things are supposed to be. isn't survival of the fittest the way animals live?"
To tell you the truth 'survival of the fittest' is not even the right term as mentioned by Darvin. What Darvin said was simply, animals with certain characteristics...suppose the well known black moth, carried on its trait because of an environment that was exploited by human industrialization...so that means if pollution didnt' occur the black wouldn't have lived, so it was merely a matter of chance the black moth was more successful than the white moth (which does't mean it was the fittest rather the odds were with him). So what is my point.

There is no survival of the fittest, one's patience, one's courage counts, some are born lucky, some get lucky along the way, and some are self made, and those who are self-made are appreciated the most. Hope you find your answer, and I cannot answer everything.

I don't disagree that the Golden Rule should be observed at all times, but if you're talking about reality television shows such as "The Apprentice" and "American Idol," you also have to keep in mind that the people who apply KNOW ahead of time that they're going to potentially be humiliated. As for Simon, I've watched that show from time to time, and really - he is being honest. Only about 10% of those people can sing in tune (sorry, I'm a classically-trained musician and while I admittedly cannot sing, I do have perfect pitch). Would you rather he lie to them and boost their egos, only to be disappointed later in life?

I agree, it's all about the money and ratings.

right this is my analogy: females might choose for a nasty guy who worked with ill youngsters in Africa. OR females might choose for a wealthy guy who worked as a lawyer. OR females might choose for the lead guitarist of a storage band. it isn't the money for many females, you're misassigning reason. it rather is the features that is going with the money, and it rather is "success". however the money does not actual might desire to be there, IF some thing extra important than money IS. The deal is--and females say this each and every time--money is stable. inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it is not the only or maybe the main obligatory factor. The existence of the asserting "you could fall in love with a wealthy guy as actual as a nasty one" tells ME that adequate females actual DO choose for undesirable adult men they had to come again up with an entire pithy asserting approximately it.

Sounds like your fed up with the way things are huh? Most shallow people don't recognize it in themselves, but are quick to point it out in everyone else. Simon cowell, has found a gimmick that is making him rich ( his raw/mean bluntness) people love to see him do it and are glad it's not them. ( just like people will stand and watch a bully torture their victim and never say a word) most people are like little blind sheep happy to be in a big herd unseen and unknown. it's the ones who conquer their fear and stand up for themselves and others that become the leaders. i hope i have helped you.

You are addressing a superiority complex. . . .

Others will interpret it as a inferiority complex because these people always try to make themselves look better than others
