The label indicates maximum lamp wattage. Anything below 75W is acceptabel as long as it has a R30 base.

Yes, I recently purchased an outdoor flood light and purchased the flourescent energy saving bulbs to use with it in place of the incandescent 150 watt bulbs. The only way these could not be used is if the fixture is controlled by a dimmer switch.

yes, we have done the same. The only problem we have encountered, if the light is outside, is that the energy saver bulbs brighten as they warm up. So, the colder the air around the bulb, the longer they take to warm, and hence the longer they take to brighten to their full candle power.
