ARE DELL PCS ANY GOOD AND CAN YOU upgrade?

i want to buy a new pc and think a dell pc will do. can you buy upgrades from other manufacturers. some one said dell don't let you use other products other than dell products

Dell PC's are pretty good machines. If you can take care of them, they can last you a nice long time. I have 2 dell laptops, 1 is 6 years old and runs fine.

You can add upgrades to your dell, but read any warranty, opening the case may void that warranty.

Depending on the Dell system you get, you may be stuck with what you purchase originally. They do sell some models that dont have any upgrade slots, and the boards are set to only handle low amounts of RAM.

However, if you dont limit yourself that way, you can get upgrades to them, just like you can for any other system out there. Dell follows the same guidelines as any other manufacturer, and as long as you get a new component that is compatible, it doesnt have to come from Dell directly.

P.S. I personally advocate people getting a Dell because they have a good support system and are a name that will remain in the arena for a long time to come.

I have been using Dell PCs for years and have upgraded every one that I have had eventually. They are great PCs. I wouldn't recommend the low end models but I always buy middle to high end myself. By the way, when I have installed upgraded components I have never bought them from Dell, so yes you can use products from other manufactures.

Dells are OK if you just want a PC that is middle of the road and you have faith in prayer. Pray that it doesn't break down as their customer service is not hot. You are also right about upgrading. They tend to use weird parts that you can't get from your friendly mail-order supplier. Their motherboards are OEM built to their specs. Best buy would be one that uses 'standard' parts that you (or someone) can swap out if anything goes wrong and wouldn't cost you an arm and a leg.

dell are crap and are well known for not being easily upgraded. Get a pc magazine such as custom PC there are some good sellers in there, also do your homework, you will need to know the difference between an AGP graphics port and PCIexpress, Dualcore and singlecore, if you go to somewhere like pc world the salesmen there will sell you a load crap, for a rip off price. I was in there the other day and heard one on the verge of closing a deal of £450 for a 1.8ghz pile of shite, I had to step in and advise the customer that he should think again, the PC was only worth £200 max

i offered a working laptop or computing device and a computer few months in the past they worked out extra clever spec and comparable fee as one computing device that i might been staring at ,the help is stable ive 3 yrs cover and despite if some thing like demonstrate screen or hinges bypass incorrect on the computing device dell will restoration. examine the area for provides whilst i offered the laptop i've got been given loose extra reminiscence .

I wouldn't buy Dell, packard bell or advent which are packard bell sold through currys and dixons. Have a look at www.ebuyer.co.uk. I have 2 Acer laptos which are very good but would consider hp as well.

Make sure that it doesn't have rambus memory. My brother wanted to upgrade the memory on his Dell, and found out it used rambus memory. The upgrade cost him $500. I told him that he could buy a new computer for that!!!

Dell are great value for a great computer (using one now). I can't see how they could stop you opening it up and putting in an upgrade from another company unless they are secretly watching you now.....oh no! they've spotted me - help...
