Nothing can be something after sometimes, it's just a matter of the mean time, but zero is a whole number that will never change and will always be zero, anything with a quantity of zero will never be there !!

If you mean besides the way they are spelled, then that would be that zero refers to things that can be counted such as zero dollars, zero houses, etc. whereas nothing can be used to sum up things that are not physical, such as beauty, eg. ugly betty has nothing on jessica alba. Beauty cannot be counted. So they mean the same but are used in different contexts. Or as in the case of Whitney's song I Have Nothing if I don't have you - you would not say I have zero if I don't have you. I hope that makes sense to you.

If a car is not moving its MPH is zero not nothing. If you are just sitting at home and a friend calls and asks what you are doing, you are doing nothing, not zero.

Zero is neutral - a point reached! Example zero point. Zero stands for something that exists.
Nothing is absense of anything including neutral. Nothing stands for something that does not exist.

All things in existence we perceive through senses, things we understand and apply our reason to in order to establish realistic connections are in fact arbitrations. These are the factual images of the actual reality behind things in existence. For example, we are, in a worldly sense, what we appear to be, or the way we are known to be in the knowledge and understanding of other people; and the nature to us is an embodiments of balance, growth and harmony, flowers that of beauty and grace, and stars that of eternity. Similarly all things are the projection of one or more absolute realities in existence – things are more than in their essence what they appear to be in their forms.
The zeros is a from, the zero is an arbitration in reality upon an arbitrary number line.. It is just like all other numbers in counting, as it is, by a general definition, a numerical digit too, but unlike all other numbers the zero counts the absence of any thing countable; unlike all other numbers the zeros denotes to count up to nothing as it amounts to nothing in its essence, but it IS something in its form.
Where the zero is in opposition to at least one or all countable things in existence, a nothing is in opposition to the reality of existence itself, it amounts up to a non-existence; if the zero is an arbitration then nothing is the reality behind this arbitration.
