A year ago I was assaulted by two blacks w/ baseball bats.In defence I pulled a knife and stabbed them back.I was booked on charges of 1st degree assault.I represented myself in court & was proudly vindicated by a verdict of NOT GUILTY by reason of self defence.I now want my knife BACK.I've had it for years & it has alot of sentimental value to me.I know I have a right as an American to get my propery back,or be reimbursed for it yet the police & DA's office are giving me alot of crap.(no doubt pissed off about having to accomodate the likes of me)So I will have to grab the Bull by the horns and fight for whats legaly mine.My question is if anyone has a link to the CASE LAW,or LEGAL INSTRUCTIONS concerning a citizens right to re-possess his property from the police dept. after being found not guilty of any crime.

Contact the clerk of the court where the trial took place and ask for a court order to have the property returned " post haste". The order should have a time reference such as 10 working days,AND BE SENT REGISTERED OR RETURN RECEIPT MAIL.
Then the P.D and D.A. Will really be pissed. You will need the case number etc. in the request but you should be able to get it from the clerk. Good luck and strongly consider moving. p.s. not guilty means no further criminal action can be planned or take place. if the P.D. Says they cant produce the knife.Ask the court clerk about a contempt of court action . Don't give up easily !!!!

It is safe to say that your weapon is still needed as evidence in pending legal matters.

And if it has a lot of sentimental value, why are you so quick to demand reimbursement as an alternative?
