If you look at the schedule and record of Syracuse and Duke they are remarkably similar. The RPI is the only glaring difference that I see between the two teams. Aside from the fact that Duke dropped their last 3 games of the season, and Syracuse won 4 of their last six including a win over Georgetown. They have the same record, Cuse was 10-6 in their conf. while Dook stunk it up to 8-8 in theirs. Both conferences were strong, in fact there were more ranked teams at the end of the season in the Big east than in the ACC. So the Committee is saying that Duke is among the top 36 teams in the country while Syracuse is not in the top 65. Add to that only 5 at large bids in this tourney, and I think specail consideration is being made for Dook. I have heard the tradition argument but Cuse has won a championship recently while it has been a while for dook. It just seems like a sham to me. What do you think?

It is Duke. Everybody is scared of Coach K. What really gets to me is not that they are a six seed but that all the calls go there way bc there coach scares the refs. The game that made me super mad was when they played clemson at home and they messed up the game clock. You only see these type of things go Duke's way. I really hope they are one and done because they deserved to be a much higher seed, like a 10.

You sound like you don't want to here this, but Duke's strength of schedule is third in the country and has been in the top 5 all year. Micah L said it best when you look at record vs quality opponents. The Big East is not as good as the ACC (nowhere close). ACC and SEC went back and forth all year for conference RPI rankings. Mark my words.....Duke will have a good run in the tourney, maybe even a Final Four. Just watch. Call me stupid after they get knocked out but not right now. Duke plays great D and Coach K is a master at what he does...bottom line.

One more thing - Nobody says Syracuse was not one of the Top 65 teams in the country. There is only 33-35 at-large bids. Do you even know how the seeding works in the NCAA Tourney?

Coach K and his Blue Devils are a favorite with the committees that make these selections. That why Duke is ranked at 6 and they are not a very good team right now. The records speak for themselves and Duke always benefits from some type of favoritism in the ACC. At a point this year Duke was ranked ahead of Maryland who not only swept Duke and beat North Carolina, but also had a better record in their conference. It just goes to show what type of favoritism the Blue Devils benefit from. Think about the game against Clemson where Coach K was able to haggle more time on the clock than it should have been and Duke was able to win on a last second shot. Then later the league apologized for the mistake but by then it's too late. Screw the Blue Devils. Their season will be over soon.

I agree with you that Duke doens't deserve a 6 seed and I am a Duke fan. I think at times they play like a top 36 team and at times they play like a top 100 team. The difference between Duke and Syracuse really falls in the quality wins category. Both teams have played 7 games against ranked top 25 opponents. Duke has gone 4-3 in those games, and Cuse has gone 2-5.

I'm a Duke grad (97-01, the best years of Duke basketball other than early 90's :-)), and I agree we should be seeded 8th, like Kentucky and Arizona did. The factors for a higher-than-expected seed are, I'd say:

1. RPI
2. Reputation (being No. 1 seed 6 out of last 7 years had to weight in committee's mind somewhat, even if they don't admit it)
3. The strength of schedule. The team did beat some very good teams out of conference (Georgetown, Indiana, Air Force, Gonzaga), and they didn't have a bad loss; however, the good wins all came early in the year and all at home or on neutral floor, so the late slide should've cancelled it out.

The RPI I'm sure was part of the resume that helped them get thier seed. Duke also beat Georgetown. Syracuse didn't beat anybody of signifigance on the road other than Marquette.

Duke got a 6 seed based solely on past performance and reputation. Given their tournament resume without their name, they MIGHT have been an 8 or 9 seed. I'm not picking them to lose in the first round, but I'll be pulling like hell for Virginia Commonwealth.

I'll tell ya how Duke is a 6th seed. Theyre no good. I dont like them but this is a sorry year even for them. If i had to make the decision Duke would have been left out of the tournament.

It's a total gift. Duke is weak this year. If they're going to be in the tournament at all, they should be a 10, 11, or 12 seed.

I think you have a point there, but there are ALOT of teams this season who don't deserve to be in the NCAA tourney over some of the NIT teams.

I don't know what is going on with the committee this year. There are always a handful of snubs, but this year you couldn't count them on both hands!
