So heres the whole story:
I'm not allowed to wear skirts higher than my knee unless I wear leggings, which looks stupid on me cuz I'm only 5ft tall. I'm 15. My lil sis, 11, gets to wear practically anything. And she wears some pretty skimpy stuff, Some of her skirts almost show her butt. Now I don't even want to wear a skirt that short. I wouldn't even be comfortable in something so short. By they way, I NEVER got to wear short skirts. So its not even like i got to when I was 11. I don't even have long skinny legs, I have short legs so its not going to make me look much prettier.
So i thought about asking her if I can wear anything that when I'm standing, hits my fingertips and below. Its some school rule I heard from my friends school. Do you think this is a good idea?
I know she's trying to protect me from boys blah blah blah. Guy still notice me if I'm wearing a hoodie and jeans, so w/e.
Thanks, I'm just not doing very well with my mom right now. She isn't into fashion like me!

I wouldn't be wearing a short skirt in a really trashy style or anything. Prob just flipflops, and a cute A&F sweater, or polo.

The rule you came up with is good. If you can't bend over in it without showing off your goods, go for it. Your mom is probably just worried about you being seen as something that you aren't.. "Trashy" and what-not. She's just looking out for you- but making a compromise like this shows a lot of respect for her and yourself which she will appreciate. Good luck!

i can relate---my mom didn't allow me to wear short skirts when i was your age(am now almost 22) and it pissed me of. It wasn't until i got a little older that i realized my mom was just trying to protect me. It might seem like your mom is trying to give you a hard time, but believe me, everything she's doing is in your best interest. Are you so eager to wear short skirts because of the attention that you think you'll receive from boys? all that is not worth it in the long run. If a guy truely likes/loves you, he'll look pass how you look on the outside and focus more on what's on the inside.
*If i could turn back the clock, i would change how obssessed i was with trying to look cute for this guy or that guy, and have more self respect.*
---be more open and understanding towards your mom. Believe it or not, she was once a teenager. She's been there and done that. It might just be that she was exactly the same way you are now and is trying to prevent you from going through some of the unpleasant things that she went through as a teenager. Ask her about some of what she experienced when she was around your age so you'll get a better understanding of where she's coming from.

I agree with your rule of fingertips. Tell your mom your rule and tell her that some schools are using this same rule to protect their girls from looking too slutty. If you do not wear slutty stuff let your mom know. I suggest you show your mom magazines of stuff you plan to wear and in what ways you'll wear it.

As long as you're a respectable young lady, I do not see anything wrong with wearing skirts to the "fingertip" area without leggings. Plus, they make you look shorter. And Spring and Sumer are comming, you cant wear those when it's hot!! Good luck

That rule will allow for skirts of a respectable length and allow you to show off your legs some. I say go for it!!

Actually, super short skirts make you look even shorter. Try something between your knee and your mid thigh. That's your ideal length. You don't want to wear minis. So your rule sounds good. Go for it.

And THANK YOU for not wearing leggings. Yeah, they definitely make shorter people look even shorter, and sometimes heavier than you actually are. Good for you :)
