This is a weird question but I have to ask. I am 18 weeks pregnant and get a piercing pain through my nipples. Does anyone else experience this? Does anyone know why this happens? It can get really painful at times.

Oh my, I remember this happening to me. It would catch me off guard and take my breath away! It's hormonal changes, your body is getting ready to care for that baby! :) The breasts go through a lot of change in order to feed the baby, so view it as a sign your body is preparing and working correctly. (Yay body!) I'm sure every body is different, but my pains lasted a few weeks and were gone. Good luck!

I don't really know why it happens, but I can tell you the same thing happened to me too. That started a few weeks ago for me and lately the pains have become less frequent. My nipples did get a bit larger around that time and the color got darker too. I think it's probably just having to do with the fact that they are getting ready to produce milk here soon and your breasts are probably growing quite rapidly, at least mine are... If it's really uncomfortable ask your doctor. If you want to wait until your next apt., write it down in your journal or planner, so as not to forget, or call even. I call my Dr. all the time with odd little questions. Hey, that's what I pay them so much money for! Best of luck to you and congratulations.

I remember having that pain, your boobs are not going to feel any better. Sounds kind of gross but I used to just squeeze my nipples whenever that happened..it hurt a little but it made the pain go away faster for me. If it gets too bad then go see your doctor.

Yes, this is totally normal. This is as a result of stimulation due to your glands preparing itself for breastfeeding. I apply pressure to my nipples when I get this pain.

it is normal to have different pains anywhere when you are pregnant it is probably you milk ducts getting ready even though your true milk won't come in till the baby is born you may have some discharge everyone and then throughout your pregnancy.

Sounds to me like your milk ducts are developing more. Your breasts, as well as the rest of your body, change multiple times during and after pregnancy. I remember being very uncomfortable a few times during my pregnancy in my breasts. Good luck.

It sounds like you are lactating. It should go away. I know it hurts, i think they have products out there to soothe the pain. Once you give birth they will be really sore and they will harden (your breasts in general) but that goes away too.

Don't be embarrassed! I was expecting a crazy question ;o)
Yes, it's normal and it's your breats' lactation glands prepping for lactation. Yet another miracle happening right before your eyes.
Congrats!!
