I have a 95 bonneville with a 3800 series II V6....I had knocking in the engine. So i replaced the piston bearings. The knocking went away, but not completely. When the engine is running at idle, no knocking. But when i go to accelerate, there is knocking, but not loud.the other thing is when the engine reaches normal temp, the oil pressure gauge needle gets real close to the red zone, but the engine does not sound like its gonna die nor does it knock...please help

It sounds like your going to have to pull the motor apart. a nocking under load could be caused by excesivie piston to cylinder wall clearance, bad wrist pin bearings in the piston, or bad main bearings. The drop in oil preasure when the motor is warmed up could be the oil pump itself, or bad main bearings or a cloged pickup tube. Bottom line, it would be better to have the engine completely rebuilt or find a low milage used engine in a salvage yard, it would save you a lot of time and headaches.

Well, I have a question for you. When you did this did you replace the main bearings and the oil pump? The main bearings are rattling due to slack in them. The oil pressure is dropping like that because the new rod bearings need more pressure than what the old pump can deliver to all the working working parts within the engine. Therefore you don't have enough oil pressure to keep the main bearings lubricated right much less the rest of the engine. I strongly suggest replacing the oil pump, and, while you're in there, replace the main bearings too. If you need further assistance you can contact me by clicking my icon.

identity say that the bearing has brought about some placed on on the bore wall and the oil is escaping previous piston do you get smoke out exhaust, and absence of ability if so want rebore and poss new piston, good success

bearings for pistons?... rings yes..bearings no...connecting rods yes... sounds like a lifter hanging up...buy a can of Marvel Mystery Oil ...follow directions...oil pressure high may be clogged oil sending unit

When was the last time you had your oil changed? It crazy how sometimes people will fix the big problem and overlook the little ones.
