That can mean almost anything.

Do I give a friend I think may have lied about some small thing the benefit of the doubt? Sure.

Do I give a politician who is responsible for thousands of deaths when he may have lied the benefit of the doubt? No way.

There are times that does not always apply . Besure before you do decide to give them the benefit if the doubt.

no, but i try. its just that sometimes the person already has made a bad impression on me or already lost my trust so it is harder to build it all back up so fast and give them the benefit of the doubt.

I try- even when a driver is rude, I think, "Hey, maybe his mom is ill and he's driving to buy her flowers." You know how some acquaintances seem two-faced, maybe ignoring you when you're standing right by them, so you say, "Hi, how are you", and suddenly they have to acknowledge you? Big smile.... "Oh, hi!" I decided that the nice way of behaving is who they really want to be, so they're working on it. :)
