GREAT question!
Ah! LOGIC!!!
I have a book due out about this.
If you click on my pic, then click my 360 profile, or if that's (still mysteriously) missing, go to top of that page, & click on blog.
Details about it should come up.
If not, perhaps you could email me?

I think a Venice-style city requires peaceful waterways. Maybe it could work, I'm not very familiar with the details of the topography. But you know, the New Orleans people are demanding a quick fix, not innovation. Maybe their best bet is to make sure every house has a boat, just in case.
I kind of thought they could have left some of the water in place, and made money with glass-bottom boats to view the ruins. Before long there would be a good population of fishes and water birds; it would be a good wildlife habitat and probably reduce the vulnerability to hurricanes, as wetlands do.

What a wonderful idea! At first I'm thinking too much water, but San Antonio,Texas is beautiful, this is basically the same thing, they built around the River.I'm thinking that perhaps the level of ground vs water may be a problem.
I would send this idea to the Governor in Louisiana or the Mayor of New Orleans, Corp.of Engineers. Keep a copy of it for yourself.

i think they should make the city beautiful by bringing back what was working for the city, and hold on to the new things that will make it better, more livable, more Old School New Orleans, but with a New Generation feeling. Lots of sounds, singing, lights, most of all keep the Heart of the city The People.Let's make the Music in our Hearts ,Shout Out for a New Orleans.incorporate water into the city as water fountains, sculpted from free spirited people who know how to JAZZ it UP! that's what i think. anyone like to add anything else? stand -up and speak your thoughts to help this fine city. there's only 1 NEW ORLEANS let's keep it filled with music, food, and great people. thanks to you all who respond

When I was a kid, I used to go swimming at the local pool. I enjoyed it alot until one day ,as I clung to the side of the pool, a turd went floating by. I never went to that pool again. Considering it's New Orleans, and that all of us saw firsthand how those people live down there, I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this. Good idea, though.
