The question doesn't say that you can't protect the egg. Nor does it say how far you have to drop it, or even that it has to land on the floor.

You won't be breaking the egg while dropping it. It will break only upon reaching the ground. However, if you are asking how to prevent it from breaking when it collides with the floor, just keep a cushion or something underneath.

drop it from a height of less than a quarter-inch? Freeze it first? Encase it in concrete? Make it a fossilized dinosaur egg?
or does 'it' refer to the floor? in which case it is highly unlikely that dropping an egg will make it break....

Soak the egg in vinegar until the shell is transparent and leathery. then you should be able to drop it on concrete without it breaking

You boil the egg. Even if the shell cracks a little, the egg stays together...it dosn't break apart.

Do it under water. If that dosent work. Try it on some liquids with a little more density. Or do it in low Gravity.

egg is not for dropping. Boil it and eat with bread. Its very testy.
