because they are insecure and need name brands to make themselves feel better - or they have too much money on their hands and spend hundreds on bags instead of something useful.

Status!!! If you are seen walking down the street with a designer hand bag it mean you have enough money to be rich enough to buy that. Its really shallow, but thats life.
A coach bag is still designer, but it is less expensive than other more expensive designers. So you get a designer bag, and the status for less money.
A Chanel is the same thing. Most people like the look of Chanel more, but dont buy it because people may not know its designer.
A luiss Voiton (cant spell today, because I'm sick...) is more expensive, and if you buy it, it means ca ching ca ching bling bling bling, you have the dough to buy an expensive bag. It has high status.
My favorite kind of bags are Juicy, but the best quality is Coach.
So in the end the truth is, there are a lot of other, better quality companies out there with better bags to buy, but people buy Coach, Chanel, and Luiss because it means they are rich and can afford the bag. Either that or they just love the look of the bag.

Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel are some of the most popular brands and all the celebrities are carrying those around, but I get what your saying. I know about the Chloe, Fendi, Balenciaga, etc...

wow. that is perhaps the stupidest question i've ever read.
its not like everyone in the world only owns a coach/chanel/lv handbag.... and people do own bags from other companies also. they're just high-status good quality bags.
why do you shop where you shop when there are a lot of other brands?

Cuz if you have one of those really expensive labels everyone knows about you'll get respect and self-esteem. My friend told me this and its sad how ppl like her have to spend 2000 on a bag to make themselves stand out or get respect.

Truly the only reason would be that they can.Women never need a reason for buying what we like, we just do it.Like men why would they buy boxers over briefs,see because they want them...Thanks for 2.

(due to advertising and famous people rappin or singing about it) people just want to be trendy and buy stuff that everybody is familiar with so that they get attention when they walk in the room w/it

its for the name . It says " hey , look at me . I can afford fancy things like a movie star " . To me it says "OMG I lok like everbody else and I have no originality what-so-ever"
