Moderate caffeine is not harmful to your baby. 1-2 cups a day are fine, but consider that coffee chain coffee is much much stronger than slow drip. My obgyn said she had two cups of caffeine daily while preg and nursing, so I did too. After all, we deserve a little something for all we do for our families.
Caffeine tends to build up in babies' systems because their bodies cannot get rid of it very easily. A morning cup of coffee is not likely to harm your baby, but too much caffeine can cause problems such as poor sleeping, nervousness, irritability, and poor feeding.
The average woman's metabolism metabolizes caffeine in 2-4 hours (unless you are overweight or over 50, then it is longer). So, when I drink caffeine, I do it right after I nurse.
best of luck!

I wouldn't be sane without coffee. I have seen no ill effects on my daughter from being a coffee drinker ( I drink about 4 to 5 cups) although I have read that if your baby has gastro reflux the caffiene it ingests from mama can irritate the disease. But then every baby is different, some get cranky and overstimulated and then some (like mine) are fine.

One cup of coffee a day is fine, no more. Caffeine stays in a babies system for 100 hrs! You'll just have to try it and see if it irritates its stomach because every baby is different.

When I was breastfeeding, I drank a lot of coca cola. And i really believe that it bothered her stomach. There was almost nothing that didn't bother her. I really think that it all depends on your baby and how their little bellys can handle it. Some peoples babies never have a problem....others, are just horrible with certain foods. It's all trial and error. Eventually, I had to stop breastfeeding, even though, I really didnt want to...so now, shes just strictly on formula!

I am not a coffee drinker, but I do drink Mt. Dew which has a lot of caffine in it. I did drink it while I was nursing and had no problems. I would think a cup or two of coffee shouldn't bother your baby. Neither of my daughters ever had stomach troubles.

One cup a day. Sometimes if I am running/working out hard I will drink a cup before I go and I haven't noticed any irritation to my baby.

I drink 2 or 3 cups of coffee everyday, and breastfeed. My baby has no problems with it. All you have to do is try it out. If your baby acts fussy after you drink coffee, either stop drinking coffee, or switch to decaf.

I breastfed my daughter for more than a year, but was never a coffee drinker. I would drink soda, etc and could eat anything without it ever bothering her though.

I nursed both my sons for years, but I don't drink coffee. I drank coca cola with my second and come to think of it, he did often throw up an entire nursing session's milk. Never thought to look at what I was drinking... (too tired, I guess.)
