I've reahed tht kun cluzin. Ef it isn't a con-piracy its
collusion among some interett users to erode
one of the last surving American institutions . A lot of people misspell on this site to create a low-level
type of mayhem, and it becomes a social disease. Children cannot learn from observation when
older kids and teen-agers misspell so often. So,
to put the question to you bassically, are people
misspelling here and in other blogs intentionally?

Yes, some of it is done on *purrpus. However some of it is laziness, some of it is just pure ignorance .Studies are being done however, to show the effect of computer use on children with the spell check feature. Children today are not learning to spell it is to easy just to hit spell check and not take note on how to correctly spell the word . Writing in general is becoming a thing of the past . When was the last time you sat down and wrote a letter ? Okay, when was the last time you sent an email ? I am sure the second question was easily answered . There are already programs that even allow just to say what you want and boom theirs your letter , hit print and your ready to go. So ,yes some of it is done intentionally ,some of it in fun , and then ,some people just don't know how to spell.

Yes, it's actually "kewl" to misspell things. I have some teenage nieces who, when chatting online, are basically incomprehensible. They use so many acronyms, misspellings and slang words that it's barely recognizable as English. But that's the cool thing to do, so they do it. When I went to France a decade ago, the kids there would intentionally screw up the grammar when speaking, especially to mess with Americans. I guess it's a teenager's way of rebelling.

Of course, some people just don't know how to spell... they depend so much on their spell checking software that they never learn it themselves. But this forum has a spell checker... ???

By the way, I think the abstract concept of an "American Institution" is silly. Spelling is not an institution. I would argue that marriage is not an institution either, but won't ever win that argument...

Are you intentionally ending your question with an adverb?

Kidding. I agree, people who claim to love America and want English to be the official language need to step up and respect the language. It's my second language, and I'm appalled at how poorly it's regarded.

I have heard the excuse, "I'm on the Internet, why should anyone care how I spell?"
