In the original episodes, Krik wore a yellow commanders shirt with some gold rings around the sleeve. But as the show grew in popularity, he showed up in a avocado green gai or wrap almost while everyone else stayed the same, even commanders of his class. Does anyone know why this happened? Was it his ego and demmands that made this change or did the shows producers and directors make the change?

I sent a message on myspace to William Shatner. I will be back on here if he answers me. He played Kirk therefore he might know why they change his outfits.
Well Shatner never answer so I guess maybe go with the guy above who said they might have gotten more money to afford the new outfit.

your going way back for this. I wasn't even born when this show as on air. Some one told me and I don't know if is true, On the show, a captain on his ship can choice what he wants to where, and kirk mostly wore gold, but the lime green avcodo some times, and red sometimes. On a few of the shows other flag officers wore gold, or red. kirk also choice to break starfleet order when every he wanted to.

They were still "finding" themselves continuity-wise, and as the show could afford it, they expanded the wardrobe.
I don't believe that it really signified anything other than that.
