Too much of a distraction. Opportunity for someone to steal them.

You can bring it, just leave it in your locker and don't bring it to my class. Quiet time is supposed to be that--QUIET. Most of the time, you guys (teenagers!) are so hard of hearing from always blasting your ipods or MP3 players that you have to turn them up fairly loud in order to hear them at all, which disturbs the rest of us who haven't lost our hearing.

School is for school... you get do your own thing when you're not in school, so suck it up and get over it. Besides, there will always be some ****** who won't put away his ipod during class and he'll try to listen to it, the teacher will notice, have to stop the class to deal with him, and waste a bunch of time. What a pain in the neck.

You're in school to LEARN, not play. Besides that major fact, expensive 'toys" like CD & iPods can be lost or damaged on school property. The bottom line is that they don't belong there in the first place, they belong at home. You can always chat quietly, read or study during breaks &/or quiet time. What do you think kids did before CD's & iPods were invented?

To tell you the truth, it's the people who can't be responsible for themselves who ruin it for everyone.

I can't tell you how rude it is for a student in my class to have the headphones in his/her ears while I'm teaching a lesson. "But they're not on!" is the response that drives me crazy. How am I supposed to know? It doesn't matter anyway.

People in the modern world need to realize that polite behavior includes:

Turning your cell phones on silent.
Not putting things in your ears when your supposed to be listening to something else.
Not turning your headphones up so loud that everyone around you can sing along.

Unfortunately, the people who do these things ruin it for everyone else, thus creating the ban of all listening to such devices.
