I had to take the day off to register my son for school and my boss told me that I have a responsiblity at work and those things should be done on my own time. I work from 9am-6pm. Is it not a law to offer sick day or time off, I have a life too and sometimes I need a day off to take care of my business.

Go to the labor laws website for your state, and it should tell you. But there are many benefits that an employer does not have to give you such as breaks and lunch.

It's really depending on what kind of job you have, if it is a full-time position in an office or something they should offer you personal time. If it's a full-time position in a retail/etc kind of evironment then you're just going to have to deal with it, or get a better job.

it depends on what state you live in. also, are you a contract employee or part-time employee. regulations differ for those groups. i do agree that your boss is being unreasonable, perhaps it is time to look elsewhere for employment.
