I live in New York, but I was in Cairo 3 months ago.

Driving in Cairo is absolutely absurd I think! I couldn't totally figure out the rules for driving there but I know that you just have to make sure you don't hit the pedestrians. If your nose is in front of another car, I think you have a right to go ahead of the car even if the car is in another lane. Plus, the traffic lights never seem to change from amber...totally inexplicable.

The drivers in NYC are also absurd but at least, the cops are always there and the traffic lights actually change according to their usual programming. O, if someone rams you in NYC, they or their insurer actually fixes your ride. Good luck with getting someone to fix your ride in Cairo.

Besides that, the cabs in Cairo are cheap - never pay more than Le25 unless you're going to the airport or something. You can have an absolute blast in that city. I loved it!

Enjoy!

When I learned how to drive I took my driving lessons in New York City. I was very proud of this because I thought if I can drive in New York City I can drive anywhere. Wrong! I have been in cars in Cairo but I don't think I would dare get behind the wheel. I got an international drivers license and my friend offered to let me drive one night but I was not brave enough. When I left Cairo in February I had to fly to New York and I had a one day layover in New York City. The taxi driver from the airport apologized for the traffic. I just said "WHAT TRAFFIC!?! I have been in Cairo for six weeks!"

Dear,
am Egyptian & my answer is for sure drive in Cairo exactly dangerous because it is so crowded & noise which makes you nervous & unconformable & miss control& no one respect traffic rules.

Other cities in Egypt are better than Cairo for sure.
new york is better than cairo only not all egypt
