The individual is paramount in UK society and each individual is different from the next. This difference includes the amount of sleep a person may need in order to remain healthy.
What is sleep? Some people believe it is best described as 'the great cure', in that during sleep the human body heals itself. Junk [mail] is dumped from the conscious into the unconscious mind, so relieving us of the previous day's worries and fears, highs and lows etc.
Sleep patterns vary from person to person. Winston Churchill managed on 4 to 6 hours sleep a night but also had a two hour sleep most afternoons. So, although he appeared to spend less time sleeping than is generally thought to be the average of about eight hours, he was in fact sleeping for up to eight hours with a break after the first 4 to 6 hours.
Leonardo da Vinchi never slept more than one or two hours at a time - his sleep pattern is best described as 'cat-napping'. Leonardo spent much of the 24 hour day working but sleeping for short periods. This method of sleeping for short bursts at a time, allowed [enabled] him to think about problems he wanted to solve much more so than if he had slept for six to eight hours each night.
The hours we sleep is an individual choice and much of this 'choice' depends very much upon our ancestors. Ancestors are important because not only do we look exactly like them, we also behave exactly like them. Even unto the Middle Ages.

Regardless of what you think human beings do better with 8 hours of sleep nightly. You might feel ok now but you will be weakening your immune system and letting stress bother you more if you continue.
6 reasons for more sleep:
Learning and memory: Sleep helps the brain commit new information to memory through a process called memory consolidation. In studies, people who’d slept after learning a task did better on tests later.
Metabolism and weight: Chronic sleep deprivation may cause weight gain by affecting the way our bodies process and store carbohydrates, and by altering levels of hormones that affect our appetite.
Safety: Sleep debt contributes to a greater tendency to fall asleep during the daytime. These lapses may cause falls and mistakes such as medical errors, air traffic mishaps, and road accidents.
Mood: Sleep loss may result in irritability, impatience, inability to concentrate, and moodiness. Too little sleep can also leave you too tired to do the things you like to do.
Cardiovascular health: Serious sleep disorders have been linked to hypertension, increased stress hormone levels, and irregular heartbeat.
Disease: Sleep deprivation alters immune function, including the activity of the body’s killer cells. Keeping up with sleep may also help fight cancer.

I used to do all that with my son and he's a experience and healthy 30+ despite, in spite of the indisputable fact that why might you would be able to desire to contemporary a 6 week historic a blanket besides(i'm assuming you recommend as a comforter), different than for the single/s she needs to maintain her safeguard in her cot or pram, she would not opt for one. If she has a slumbering suit and the room is heat may well be she would not desire a blanket as she is wriggling out of them besides. in all probability giving your better half a touch help will calm concerns down a touch she will agonize approximately her new toddler and probable she isn't as laid decrease back as you.

Yeah! ..... One of my biggest goals in life is more work and less sleep.
Here's what I do. I go out dancing 4 or five nights a week. I make sure that I get 7-8 hours of sleep. I'm taking earlier retirement in three weeks and don't plan to do any work that I don't have to.

I'd love to be able to do that, but alas I'm doomed to sleep every night otherwise I feel terrible. And I though sleep was as much part of a heathy lifestyle as everything else.

Well, as long as you are happy and healthy - go with it.
It would not work for me! I couldn't survive on less than 8 hours a night!
I guess we're all different huh?
