Simple Answer
I recommend that you do the AB BOOT CAMP. (And no there is no easy way)
If you have the flat stomach, the ab boot camp can help you to bring out your abs. It isnt just crunches...its a variety of stomach and lower back exercises to show off what you've been working towards.
If you find that too difficult you can always do any of the other Middle Section workouts at the link below.
If you have a layer of fat over your belly or around it, you will need to do cardio to burn that fat!

Everyone has a Six pack! The problem is there is fat over it. 18% body fat is the issue. Do some weight training and cardio. If you get your Fat % down to 7-8% range those abs will show. Also if you are going to the beach for a weekend and want to look great drop all your water weight. (Note this is only safe for a short time ie weekend) Drink 128 oz of water for a week and cut out all sodium for 3 days before. You will shade all of your water weight and it will help even more. Do not keep doing this for extended periods of time or every weekend.

if he is 5' 10" and weighs 155 and has 18% bodyfat there must be no muscle at all on him. tell him to start lifting weights to go along with all of the running he is doing for soccer. it should help alot, along with not eating anything that has high fructose corn syrup in it.
