well 1st off vista is awful for gaming will drop you like 15+ fps in anygame and that has been PROVEN by nvidia. However if you must use vista i recomend the 8800 gtx or gts those are the only cards built for directx 10 one of vistas main features

Recently upgraded to vista and installed 8800 and having driver issues worked awesome with xp though. Windows Vista sucks for gaming

A card with the NVidia GeForce 8800 or 8600 GPU.

Just make sure any card you buy supports direct 9x.
