Hi again, wondering if you could help me, I recently got my headshot done and am wondering to send them out in colour, it does do more justice than the black and white, im just not sure if britain is begining to accept colour headshots as suitable yet, i understand its becoming popular in LA and NY.

If anyone has any help i would appreciate it. Thanks.

I would suggest black and white. Most people use black and white still, and it is more classic and widely accepted. This is true unless you are sending them to modeling agencies, they will want to see your coloring, and might like both a black and white and color shot.
Some general headshot tips:
1. make sure all of your face can be seen (so super close-ups and full body shots are a no go)
2. make sure the headshot is a vertical photo (casting agents will just discard anything that doesn't fit nicely in their files, they have too much to deal with anyway)
3. if you are leaning on a hand or arm, make sure your face is not distorted, covered or smooshed
4. try to look pretty much front on, no profile shots
5. where your hair how you normaly would (no themed pictures, and please, no props!)

Ok, Black & White is NOT the standard in Los Angeles. Everyone uses color here. A headshot is a headshot and of course no one will throw away your shot because it is in black & white.

But if you KNOW that the color looks better you should send that one out!

I'm an actor in New York and am just beginning to consider abandoning the old black and white format. I have seen color headshots lately. I think the trend started in LA and is working its way east. I couldn't tell you how soon it will "cross the pond."

Best of luck

The industry standard is Black and White photos for headshots!

If you want to be different and rock the boat, go ahead! It's your career!

Color has been gaining popularity because of internet submissions. You should check with agents in your area. However, I have lived in LA and NY and know a number of people using color. I don't think there is anything wrong with black and white though.

My personal preference is color because it shows casting directors what you really look like. I also think it has a more contemporary feel. Good luck in your decision.
