If I did it I man up. If I didn't do it I try to find out why I'm being blamed.
It's funny how people focus on blame when something goes wrong instead on fixing the situation.
Sometimes I take the blame just to get to the fixing stage. Blaming is for children. Adults should be looking for resolutions.

I accept the blame & apologize

it depends on the situation. if i did it, then i will admit and explain why did i do it. if it really hurt the person concerned and i realize that it's my fault then i would ask for an apology. but if they blame me for what i did not do, then i have all the reason to react and correct their assumption. to clear things.

try to prove my innocence or apologize and take the blame

when I'm blamed for what my sister did, I find good evidence or bring up past events that incriminate her. If I did do it, I'd still incriminate her.
