The best place for rocks, minerals and gems are the Trade Shows. The largest are Tuscon and Denver shows (these are spectacular), however there are many other shows around the US and you can find all kinds of mineral, rocks and gems at different prices. Check Rock and Gem Magazine or other mineral magazines for more info.

Find people like me who have buckets of material set aside for educational outreach! You can fine people like me at your local rock and mineral club. Most are members of Federaton of Mineralogical societies. Do a web seach. You can search for local clubs in your area through their main website. Also this is the season for the Gem & Mineral shows. They are usually advertized in the paper (small ad) and listed on community calenders. Most of these shows are sponsored by mineral clubs. They have booths set up to help/educate parents and kids about the hobby. The dealers always carry inexpensive minerals too. I hope you find us - we are eager to help!

Do you know what ? Try to put them in an association where they will be able to find the rock themselves. There is nothing more exciting than finding a gypsum crystal rose inside dirty clay or breaking a rock in a quarry to find a geode full of calcite crystals.
