They would love for all the child rapists and killers to get out of jail as soon as possible and "rehabilitate" antisocial evil psychopaths who love to prey on innocent civilians and children.
Tell me, without guns, how do you plan on defending yourselves agaist the psychopaths you want roaming the streets?

Here is Europe very few people have guns. I'm 33 and I have not held a gun in my life, let alone fired it. Yet violent criminals do not seem to overrun us. In fact, looking at highly liberal countries like Sweden, Norway, and the extremely liberal Netherlands I would say there must be something else that causes such prosperity and low crime rate. (not to mention the low amount of accidental deaths from gun fire)

I am a liberal and I have no problem putting these people behind bars for the rest of their lives as long as they put the prisons right next door to you. With your plan there would be a prison on every street corner in America. Now that's that good ole GOP thinking.
I agree some criminals cannot be rehabilitated but we need to make sure they cannot before we decided their fate. Once these criminals have served their time they should be psychoanalyzed to see if they can be rehabilitated or not. If the psychologist decides they cannot then they should be kept in a mental institution of the rest of their lives or some type of commune where they can be isolated from the rest of society.
You need to turn off FOX News and put down the Ann Coulter book and stop with the right wing agenda, otherwise there will be a prison cell and gallows on every street corner and you might be the next one in.

I am not sure where you are getting your information from, I have never met a person that has been against prosecution, and punishment for crimes and i run in some very liberal circles. Many yes are against capital punishment for variable reasons, some believe that it is God and only God's decision when we live and die. Some believe that vengeance is counter productive, and finally some are against putting a value system on life. However would we like to see these people convicted of some of the most heinous rimes rot in Jail for the rest of their natural lives.. Yes. You will be hard pressed to find a person that does not agree with that.

Guns can lead to an unnecessary escalation of violence, I am actually unsure of why the average man or woman would need to be armed at all points. DO you really live in that dangerous a neighbor hood?

Gun control does not keep guns out of the hands of law biding citizen, it does however keep them legally out of the hands of convicted criminals, the mentally unstable and those prone to have poor impulse control. Most gun control legislation also carries heavier fines for those who are in illegal possession of a fire arm.

I am actually a little more comfortable knowing that everybody does not have a gun, considering we live in an angry society. Road rage is a huge issue, people are self serving, they are in a rush, they are impatient, they are impulsive and many medicated.

Personally, I don't know of anyone liberal or conservative, who would like to see child predators set free. If you have any specific examples, i would greatly appreciate a link to them. As far as gun control, I feel responsible citizens have that right, per the constitution. I just cannot fathom the need for a RESPONSIBLE citizen to possess or have a need for an AK-47. Before you generalize a whole group based on the opinions of a few, you should first open the door and see what is in your closet.

Boy, have we been reading Ann Coultier again?

The penal system has the following tasks:
1: To make the victims feel good (retribution)
2: To protect society from the bad guy
3: To make the bad guy not want to do it again (rehabilitation)
4: To protect the bad guy from society (lynch mobs)

At best, the American justice system does a so-so
job at #1, barely makes a stab at #2 and utterly fails
at the rest.

Ultimately, you need to decide whether you are more
interested in feeling good (punishing criminals) or
preventing crime (rehabilitation, preventative work).
If you are naive enough to think that jail time will
make people think twice about committing a crime,
you might want to check out the studies done on that.
Certainly the death penalty has no observable effect
on whether or not people commit murder, etc.

So ... if you're trying to feel good about having
made someone suffer because of something they have
done - than "throw 'em in jail" is probably acceptable.

The fact that they meet with other criminals, learn
how to be better criminals and come out as hardened
criminals is not part of your calculation - you just want
to feel better after the original crime.

Personally, I would prefer that the State organize
itself to prevent crime, not perpetuate it. It doesn't
mean I want to "go easy" on them - it means I want
something that works, not something that makes
the problem worse.

Not all of us. Trust me... I'm about as far left as you can go, but I still believe in punishing criminals and the death penalty. I'm just all for PREVENTING this stuff to begin with. Like with better parenting and helping children with mental disorders. Adults, I feel, are often way too far gone for any kind of rehabilitation.

Stop lumping all libs into one general category. You see, unlike MOST (and I said MOST) conservatives, we tend to think for ourselves and not follow one specific set of principles that our governemnt shoves down our throat. We are too smart for that.

Actually, studies have proven time and time again punishing criminals doesn't usually work, but rehabilitation does. And the corrupt republican CEO who siphons billions does far much more damage and is the true psychpath roaming the street!
