My 3 month old daughter has it and we have been putting baby oil on it because we heard it works really well for that sort of thing. I was washing her hair last night and some of her hair where the cradle cap is came out as I was gently wiping her head with the cloth. Is this normal?

My son had really bad cradle cap as a baby. It was so severe that it was all over his forehead as well. I remember seeing a lotion specifically for cradle cap in the baby section of the pharmacy (it was either CVS or Walgreens). Try that. I don't think his hair was falling out, but I do know that alot of babies loose some of their hair around that age. But don't worry,. it will grow right back.

This is normal. The hair grows through the cradle cap and comes out with combing. My son had cradle cap up to 20mos old. We did baby oil every now and then, because he had bald patches, he has really thin strawberry blond hair anyway. Concentrate on a small area at a time. I've heard Olive Oil works too, and it doesn't have the perfumes that baby oil has. That can sometimes be an irritant. If it's still around in a few months, you can try a mild dandruff shampoo, but DON'T get it in her eyes. It might not look good, but it's not harmful to the baby. At 3mos, it's most of the oils in her skin working their way out of her system

Don't worry. My son had a full head of hair when he was born and then he got cradle cap really bad and lost most of his hair. The baby oil is good. Also brush her hair with a brush and that will help remove some of it. I also used to put the baby oil on my sons head then I went put a cap on so that it will hold the moisture. I know it looks bad but it will go away, it just takes some time. Good luck!

The baby oil is mainly to loosen the loose skin to remove it. All three of my boys got cradle cap and I would put the baby oil on, let it sit for 5 min, then I would use a fine tooth baby comb to gently brush the loose flakes off. I would lightly comb the scalp. Then I would wash the baby's scalp and while the shampoo was on, would again lightly comb the scalp, then rinse and again comb any loose flakes. It was a process, but it worked quickly...it always cleared it up in just a few days.

I have been given a broom on the well being facility that became into super whilst washing the two one in all my little ones hair. My son nevertheless gets cradle cap and he's 4! I purely wash it rather good with cleansing soap, and attempt to brush it out the best i will. If it starts off bleeding, leave it on my own. the best element for us became into the comb together as washing.

It's fine - her hair coming out is not because of the baby oil or the cradle cap. It's hair that would've fallen out anyways, and because you're combing through it a lot to help out her scalp, you're just noticing it more. Lots of babies lose their hair after birth and there's nothing wrong.

Please dont' think I'm crazy, but OLIVE oil actualy worked the best for us. I would rub it in with a cotton ball, let it sit fo 10 minutes, then massage my babies head with an infant comb. He loved it so much he would fall asleep! I think the natural oils and nutrients in the olive oil seem to work better than commercial baby oil that is chemicals and stuff.
Also, babies do bald some at this age, and then their "true" hair grows back in.

In order to avoid overly drying out the little one's skin, you might want to keep the baby's baths down to 2 or 3 a week. Arbonne has a great baby care line (hair and body wash, lotion, body oil, diaper rash cream, and sunscreen) that is water based, botanically-based and pH correct, pediatrician and dermatologist tested, non-sensitizing, non-irritating, and formulated without nut oils. They are formulated with natural ingredients like oat flour which is an emollient and an emulsifier. It’s highly absorbent and hypoallergenic. Oat flour helps to soothe and soften dry, itchy and sensitive skin. I use Arbonne's baby care products on both of my children and we all love it. If you're interested in learning more, I'll be happy to help you.

They make a special baby shampoo for cradle cap. (I got at walmart in the baby isle). Also baby oil or olive oil work well but make sure you are brushing it loose.

It's really more of a parental embarrassment than a serious medical condition (she might have a little itching). We used oil. The condition will go away on its own before the first birthday. The important thing: don't rub up there too hard.

I'm a parent of two, and not a doctor.
