Do you really need to get on with them? Try to avoid them as much as possible but when you meet or need to speak try to be as professional as possible, then go to the toilet and scream the anger out if it's that bad!

Lowesman, your question is quite a very general one. I cannot give a specific advice without knowing the true situation. But to give you a well-rounded advice, I'd like to ask you these questions:

1. What is it that makes this person intolerable?
2. Is this person not up to your standards, or is this person really being a jerk?
3. Are you being oversensitive? Do you think that you can sympathise with his weakness?

Sometimes, the reason why we cannot tolerate other people is because they are just "different," and not because they are unkind and rude people. An example of "different people" would be those that are clumsy, gays, easy-going people who do not take their work seriously, etc.. With these kinds of people, only tolerance and patience will work. In fact, you will be the stronger for this if you exercise patience, sympathy and tolerance. You have to know that these people are not entirely at fault on their own. They just can't help it, but it will help you to open up a bit.

But if you are referring to rude and unkind people, I wouldn't say that you avoid them at all costs, because this is impossible in the workplace. One of the solutions to this sort of situation is not to do anything that will "heat" these people up. Also, show more friendliness. I'm not saying that you should be a hypocrite, just consider that person as a friend and treat as such. This should put down his/her guard. Remember that this person is not a total enemy. Therefore, chances are big that you can shift the tide to your favor. Don't return rudeness with the same, but stay your ground and speak in a calm manner, letting him speak if he butts in your words. This should expose his immaturity to himself and to all. If this person is really going overboard with his nastiness, then it is appropriate to report him to your seniors. Hope this helps.

Kill them with kindness. Go out of your way to be friendly, cordial, polite, and interested in them. Say "good morning" very loudly to them. Ask them questions. Buy them a Coke. You will place yourself in a good position by making the effort to communicate & treat them like a human. You never know, there might be something you two have in common... perhaps you might learn to tolerate the person by being nice.

Keep everything business-related, even if they make personal remarks/attacks. Unless you are the designated leader in a situation, submit your recommendations to decision makers. You don't want to be perceived as a non-contributor, but when management favors the other person, it reduces the conflict.

first realize that what ever this person says means nothing because they most likely are extremly ignorant and like me a bad speller so any thing you say to this person will only find barren land to implant it self in. so when it comes to conversing with this person keep it short and never never say anything nice to this person and I don't mean say mean things to this person just do not give them any reason to feel good around you or they might come back for more

Try and stay away from them as much as possible and then try and ignore them when you can't, smile and try to think as many nice thoughts as you can and if that don't work keep mentally the things you would love to say to them inside and just say them to yourself.and smile away while thinking them.

I would give the person the benefit of the doubt, and if they are really annoying just simply avoid them.

Try to stay away from them if you can. If not then try to find at least one good thing about them and work from there.

Generally speaking, I avoid them as much as possible. If I have to interact with them, I basically just keep my mouth shut and smile and nod politely.
