unable to download software even the manufactures say they have no software yet/ have they not known about vista for the past 12 months any advice please thank you x

There are many inconsistancies between XP and
Vista that have kept non Microsoft developers busy.
Ultimately that is the fault of the O/S. I recommend
that you consider replacing it with one of:
http://fedora.redhat.com
http://www.opensuse.org
http://www.debian.org
http://www.ubuntu.org
http://www.slackware.org
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.opensolaris.org
They cost nothing and generally have lower
total cost of ownership (TCO) in the long run.
They are more reliable and make better use
of the hardware you have (rather than requiring
you to upgrade).

go bk to xp, vista is working with a good number of issues and xp has been accelerated for further provider packs untill they are able to iron out problems with vista! which would be yet another 18 months too 2 years yet if no longer longer, vista aint that great in any case (no longer at the same time as its working with faults), yeah it has some extra useful seen concepts yet you like a great laptop to run maximum constructive factors in vista to no longer point out a suitable grade pix card! I certainly have a suitable of variety laptop yet im sticking to xp, extra useful secure than sorry i say! as to ur digital camera, verify with the manufacturers webby to be certain if that's up-graded or no longer if it could and it nonetheless wont do owt, its probs ur vista blocking off it (straightforward problem with vista) wish you get it appeared after in any case, if no longer u purely have 2 wait yet another 2 years for vista to artwork exact then ur digital camera ought to up-date ok, yet you will probs have offered a clean one via then lol satisfied new 3 hundred and sixty 5 days to all x x

Vista is (at the moment) rubbish!
It's just a gloryied up version of XP with an added stardock.
There are so many bugs to the thing it's unbeleivable and windows are fixing it as we speak. They'll update you with update info as it happens and you'll be able to dowload the fix patches for free.
They didn't really test the thing properly before releasing it and the complaints are flooding in thick and fast.

Elana is right,Linux is a great operating system,it's free,open source and modifiable by anyone.
Linux probably has drivers for all your devices.
