A baby in the womb of his mother may ask a similar question. What am I doing in this dark and confined environment, in this liquid world in which I am growing?
Besides I don't even know why I am developing eyes, ears, legs and arms if I am not able to use them.
The answer is that they will be useful in the world in which he will be born, the physical world in which we live now.
What happens if he decided and could "not develop" his arms and legs when he was growing in the womb? He would be at a disadvantage here, of course.
The purpose of physical existence is to develop moral virtues, and to put them to the service of others, to the service of mankind. This done at the individual level will lead to the progress, well being peace and security of the whole human race.
For us it will be like developing the organs that will allow us to progress in the future worlds, which are spiritual and not material.
Here are some suggestions for acquiring those virtues.
"Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be worthy of the trust of thy neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and friendly face. Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer of the cry of the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of thy pledge. Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be unjust to no man, and show all meekness to all men. Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression. Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all thine acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be an ornament to the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of mankind, an ensign of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the firmament of thy generation, a fruit upon the tree of humility."

That's pretty simple, So we can have the chance to help other man kind and share our beings with others. Life is a wonderful thing and the more we give of our self to others the more we get in return. Maybe I might have a talent to create something that might make someone smile or have the know how on how to save a child from abusive parents , or how to help an old person across the road. Life has so much to offer and that my good sir is why we live. Hoary!!

What is the purpose of life? It is to "relate" to one another (the Lord included)… to connect to one another, with a loving manner.
"Relate" means: to connect, unite, associate.
"Elate" is part of the word "relate."
To elate means: to lift up, to encourage, to inspire, to motivate> unto love and good works.
