Who has ever had sinus surgery where they go up your nose and poke a few holes in your sinuses to help you 'unclog'. I am scared as the 'rare' side effects can be damage of the optic nerve and hitting the brain fluid causing menengitis. I am sure my Doc is very good, but I am still afraid.

My husband had the "roto-rooter" process done to his nose. He can breathe so much better, does not get sinus infections anymore and the procedure actually straightened out his nose! The side effect is rare. Make sure you have a good surgeon, check out his history and get some references.

I had cauterization to stop nose bleeds. It was scary but the only really horrible part was the smell while he did the surgery. If you don't want to resort to surgery, try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.
I also rinsed to heal the scars in my nose after surgery.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

I wouldn't worry too much. I had much the same thing but they went through the back of my sinuses to remove part of my skull for a tumor. It was incredibly pain free apart from the stopped up nose from hell for a couple of days. I've had worse trips to the dentist.

No side effects - and I got lovely clear sinuses as a bonus.

Any surgery, minor or major, is scary. I had terminite surgery on my sinuses. They zapped them with a laser to make them wider. It wasn't too bad. I wasn't too sore or anything. I'm sure you'll be fine, when you hear side effects you are afraid of the worst. But it's very, very rare so don't worry. They can treat those anyways. You'll be fine.

Once my doctor wanted me to have that surgery but I declined to do it. I was scared also, and I heard that most people who have it done end up having to do it again in the future. I dont know if that is true or not but I didn't like the idea of it.

My friend had it and she was so pitiful afterwards. She had 2 black eyes for a really long time. I am not sure if hers was the same surgery you are talking about though.

Good luck to you if you get it. I hope all goes well for you.

I have had sinus surgery, but they didn't poke holes.

Our science knowledge is so reliable, I am sure there is nothing to worry about.
