I recommend dell computers. I have 2 laptops, 1 is a 6-year old laptop that works great. They make a great product and have great deals on-line.

I don't have any experience with Toshiba, sorry.

You can get the latest coupons and deals at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html

Good luck

Sony tends to be the most reliable, but way over priced and under performing.

HP is a good all around brand. They are very reliable and well though out. I love my pavilion dv4000

Dells are my second choice although I had some issues with theirs in the past.

Stay away from Toshiba, Acer or any aftermarket brands.

You want to stay with a major brand. Your laptop may eventually need a replacement part. It is easier to find them on name brands like Dell and HP.

For the money, I would recommend HP. They have an excellent DV line that is offering exactly what you looking for

They are offering the HP DV9000 with a 2 GHz dual core + 17" XGA Ultrabright screen starting at 1100 with free shipping on the HP website

Toshiba is junk. Dells can sometimes have issues but are still worth looking at. HP does laptops best. Dell does desktops best. IMHO

I was going to recommend IBM Thinkpads, because they're awesome work horses that lasts and lasts. But for what you want to do, I would try Alienware or even a Dell. They're both highly customizable, and are known to be well built.

The MacBook is the best notebook in that price range, but you'll need an external TV tuner. They have USB TV tuners that cost under $100.

Stop your search! Take a look at the HP Pavilion dv9000. It can do everything you want.
I want one for myself, but I can't justify spending the money when my HP dv5000 kicks butt!
