why does the united states ignore south america?

I haven't studied South America since the early 1970's.
but of the five people I know who went there (various countries)
all returned with a disease or parasite. And they were not in the wilderness, in hotels they were on vacation.

It doesn't. It's spent most of the postwar years toppling left-leaning democratic governments and replacing them with politically 'safe' dictatorships. This has happened in El Salvador, Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba...

It's not the attention South Americans would want, but you can't say South america is being ignored.

It doesn't at all, the United States has been deeply involved in South American politics, by propping up political regimes (through financing) and endorsing particular candidates. Check out the wikipedia link below for all the info.

I don't think the U.S. ignore South America I think that the U.S. and south American can't communicate with each other because both have different veiws. We can't ignore them they are at our border they are our neighbors.

You can't win. You go in and try to help out, you get shunned for being "imperialist" and "imposing Democracy" - you butt out, you get criticized for "ignoring South America."

No matter what we do, the America Haters will criticize it.

That's why we need to stop listening to them and just do what is right.
