There are some questions I'd want to know. for example when you came out from the gas station and got in, did you have power and when you tried to start it a click, and then no power, or just everything is dead?

Same for the morning? If there is power, but when you turn the key it clicks and then no power, that sounds like a bad solenoid (sp) on the starter.

But before you try the alternator, check your cables. Check and clean the cables to and from the battery, and to the starter. Then move to the alternator, and check the belt to the alternator before assuming it is the alternator. A bad belt that is slipping will also kill your battery..

You could also have a bad ignition switch. If it goes bad it can kill the whole electrical system.

But you charged it all night, and didn't start it right? See that doesn't sound like the alternator, because you would have put power in the battery. If you ran it for a few minutes, that would explain the lack of starting. But not starting in the morning after charging all night, sounds like a battery problem/cable problem. Check there first, then move to the alternator.

Oh, a warning note. when you take it to checker/autozone even if they test it and it tests +, you may want to ask them to test it a few times. Sometimes a bad alternator will work in autozone, but when you put it on your vehicle it won't. (I had three like that in 5 weeks from local stores).

I'd recommend Napa first (they cost more, but better quality.)

Bad Battery cable . Check both ground an positive, Also it could be the seliniod. If you charged batt. and not even the dome light works it has got to be a connection or seliniod

Charged battery all night and right away you have nothing? Altenator has nothing to do with it. You were charging the battery and the battery won't hold a charge. Battery is the culprit.

Trying putting a new battery in it, if that doesn't work its probably the alternator. Your guess is as good as mine. Good luck. I love them old ford trucks.
