now, NASA's proposed budget is less than 1 % of the total 2008 Federal budget. Is not exploration of the universe mans most noblest goal? We need to spend more here...What say you?

We landed on the Moon in 1969 due to a huge NASA budget funded generously as so the Soviets would not win the space race. Missions to the Moon were discontinued, as we had learned about all we could with the technology that was current at the time. The Apollo program was hugely expensive and therefore could not feasibly continue.

I am all for space exploration. I do my own with my telescopes. Moon missions are being planned for 2015 by NASA. The shuttle program served well to do space reaserch and construction on a smaller budget, but is being retired in 2010 to make way for newer technologies.

Keep looking up :-)

I disagree. As 'neat' as landing on the moon was, in many ways it was a waste of money. As exciting and promising as studying beyond the borders of our planet is, it's very expensive, and NASA has had some problems in the past with its shuttles.

If this is our most noble goal, then we are in trouble. There are way too many things on this planet to concern ourselves with. Government spending should be pinpointed at things like our educational system vs. space exploration. Don't be ridiculous. Space exploration offers no true contribution to our society. If you disagree please feel free to tell me what advantages are presented.
