no one will tell you to remove it for liabillity problems (darn lawyers) they fall off all the time and usally no one bothers to put them back on if its the type that is wielded on put a large hose clamp around it and tighten it up if its the one hooked to the body bend it up where it rubs and when in doubt bring it to an exaust shop and let them fix you up

It's a stainless steel cover on the bottom of your converter. It's perfectly fine to remove it.
In the early days of converters When police cars hid they were causing grass fires. That's the only reason for them in the first place
When you get the car up in the air take one side of the stainless and bend it as far as you can. Keep repeating this after repeated bending the stainless work hardens and makes a clean break. Sawing does not work. An acetylene torch will do it in a few seconds. Good Luck.

I would not remove it. the shield is there for a reason. most of time they make noise cause it is damaged or has gravel between it and the pipe . I would repair it a muffler shop can do this if you are not mechanically inclined newer cars have very high exhaust temps if you remove it what ever it is shielding is longer protected and could cause a fire. Then you have carbecue.

mine does the same thing.i know it gets on your nerves, but i was told the pipe is getting thin and causing a noise.that might be your problem also, but if your sure its a heat shield, either bed it away of just take it off.just dont take it off the cat.if its the shield around the cat,do like my neighbor did,he got 2 furnace screw clamps and put them around the cat.that stopped his.i am going to have to get a new pipe for mine.these cars today are loaded with heat shields.

Likely you have run over something & bent a piece. Jack up the vehicle & place it on jack stands. Inspect & pry any metal away from the body or frame. Also check that no exhaust damage has been done.
Good Luck

this is the first sign of the exhaust system needing replacement...sure you can go withouth the heat shield...but chances are the pipes are on their way out too... the heat shield you're talking about is on the cat converter... it may be better just to go out and buy an "after market" one and replace it

Secure it with a pair of big hose clamps. That's Fords official fix when those things break loose. If you remove it, you risk cooking anything near it.

Sometimes you can fix it by using pliers to crimp it tighter. If it continues, you can remove it. Just beware if you park on dry grass, you may catch it on fire!
