Bloated and smelling is generally a bad thing and a good indicator that it is dead. Sounds like a problem that should have been noticed before it came to this, and not sudden trauma that just killed it. MOST REPTILES THAT DIE IN CAPTIVITY, DIE VERY SLOWLY UNDER POOR CARE. But, I have also come across very smelly turtles in the wild, and sick ones in captivity that you might have thought were dead. Turtles are probably more often mistaken for dead when they are not, than any other reptile because of their lack of activity when they are sick or injured.

If it is still alive it may have have it's head pulled into it's shell. If it's neck is extended and limp, it MIGHT be dead. You can try to pull on a back leg and see if you get a pulling response back from it. <<>>place a sick or injured turtle in the water to see if it is alive and will swim. A very sick, injured or scared one might not respond to this, but instead continue to hide in it's shell, or be too weak to swim, and aspirate ( choke) on the water. Then you will have a drowning problem, or pnuemonia to deal with.

If it might have drowned, you can revive a turtle for some time afterward by turning it head down and pumping it's back and/or front legs in and out to try and fill the lungs with air and clear them of water.

If it has not drowned, and you can get some response from it indicating that it is still alive, then it probably has a severe infection and/or malnutrition/hydration status. In these hibernation/coma like states when turtles are very sick, they usually don't have long to spare. Warm it up under some basking heat and get it to a vet as soon as they open if it is still alive. If you don't it will surely be dead in a day or 2. Sorry.

If it smells and is bloated it has probably been dead for a while. Sadly you notice this now? How often did you family check in on the turtle? Turtles need daily care. Maybe you should NOT get another turtle. Sorry for your loss.

If it smells, it has probably been gone for at least a day or two. I'm sorry honey, but your turtle cannot be revived. Start the grieving process and maybe bury him by a pretty river or creek or something. I'm sorry and I hope you find a new friend someday soon!

There's no treatment for death at that point, your turtle has started to decompose so there's nothing you can do. Once decomposition sets in it's impossible to revive something, and even if you could, it would have severe brain damage as well as terrible problems with all body functions.

Just mourn your pet, say a few words. I doubt it would want you to be sad over it's death but I'm sure it appreciates knowing that you loved it and will miss it.

Sorry about your pet. Make a little grave. and put on a stone marker for Mom.
If you buy another turtle, make sure you clean and disinfect all the cages, pools and dishes. Rinse very well. (Just in case some Bacteria or illness is present.)

the turtle died b'cauze either you have not given him any thing to eat for days or gave him more than the required. Remember this is a nature cycle, every thing which has life will end one day.

If you can find anyone with a cure for DEATH, let me know. As long as I have been alive, I was taught that once dead, your dead. Everything dies, sorry about your turtle. Get a new one.
